Scaletrix Rally Mods
Well i got my self a Scaletrix Subraru WRX thinking with its front bias, belt driven rear four wheel drive system thinking it was going to be a real contender on my rally track...
This car is a bit of a joke on the rally track ! geared way to long, and has no give in the guide flag and at the slightest sign of trouble it deslots !
How annoying ! At least the antennas are rubber, which is a nice touch...
So it was time to fix it...
Ordered some Ninco spring loaded guides and went about fitting one...

the orginal attempt wasnt that great, and the flag sat at a funny angle and while it was better didnt improve things that much, the way i mounted it was to just remove the old flag, and drill out the part that it mounts to to allow the ninco flag to just clip in. The base on the ninco flag is bigger and didnt seat right with the whole in the chassis, so i went about cutting off the flag mount, inverting it to get it closer to the under side of the chassis, and potted around it using some JB weld to hold it in place and provide end stops for the flag rotation.
It worked, but was a bit loose, the flag wobbled around as the hole it was mounted in was a bit large...
So yesterday i went out and got some 3/16" brass tubing, which has an ID that is perfect for the flag to clip into.
Drilled out the original mount and glued the brass tube inplace and viola !
However the flag sits down a bit far and doesnt allow the front wheels maximum contact with the track and as a result accelleration is reduced. However the car can now do lap after lap without deslotting will probably recifty the flag seat in years to come...

Re: Scaletrix Rally Mods
I figured this was also worth doing with another rally worthy Scaletrix car, namely a Mk1 Escort, this time i went for a simpler process of mounting the flag.
Remove the old one, drill out the hold for the brass tube, glue in brass tube, trim down the flag so its base fits into the recess, much much better and much much easier ! took all of about 30mins

This is the way it should be done !!

The escort is much more fun to drive than the seeming underpowered WRX, and does much better lap times !

Quite a neat solution to the Mk1 Escort, although a big bump off course could knock that out I imagine.

Give him some money Scalextric, he only uses it to buy more stuff from you guys anyway...

It should be just as tough as the original flag, as its using exactly the same mounting point

Re: Scaletrix Rally Mods
try a new ninco 4x4 Cam. They are sposed to be pretty good with suspension as well!

Re: Scaletrix Rally Mods
Which ones ?
I've got a ninco 4x4 lancer, and it is a killer !
It's the only car that i can get around the track in under 5 seconds.
Makes the SCX Pro Rally car look like poo ! straight out of the box the ninco was awesome and all i've done to it is maintain it, the SCX pro has required tweaking, and still is not where near the car the ninco is.

I've got a BMW X5 and its way too fast for how far off the track it is, think those SCX off road things.
I've got a set of 4x4 off road 'muscle trucks' waiting for collection along with another lancer in the US.

and the BMW X5.
Way to fast for something this high off the track.
