well what better way to spend a nice summers day than tearing up bits of newspaper, and playing with wire mesh and a staple gun ??

Re: Cam's Track
Hey Cam, when you've finished the paper mache level, go to Bunnings and get a bag of Plaster of Paris (~$10), and some colouring (~$ - I've found this is more solid and gives a better "rock like" appearance, if you're going to the Edgewater store, the PoP and colours are on the east facing shelves on the west side of the tool shop (as in, outside the tool shop).

Re: Cam's Track
If you want to make grassy fields, use a light green for the base colour, then get a flour siv (like in my first photo - you pull the handle and it lets the substance out) and go over with a darker green ... hope that helps!! Oh yea, I've always found that paper mache attracts mice!!

Re: Cam's Track
guide pins and flying cars are very unfriendly to plaster (even more so than paper mache)

Re: Cam's Track
Seems to attract the ants more than anything so far !

But the paper mache should be pretty durable, more so than plaster, as its far less brittle ! the other bonus is that this area of the track doesnt often see cars landing on it.

Your display looks cool, Rich, but its not what i'm going for, i want grassy fields !

As for the turf i'll be using the train shaker type stuff on top of a painted surface. looks pretty good on the rest of the track !

not sure that it will be painted for next satruday tho...
might stay up on friday to paint it, then it will be dry for saturday night

Re: Cam's Track
Cayenne or Chili power should keep the ants away...
I've also found baby powder works quite well to suffocate them.
