Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
cos it's a parallel circuit, the current is split between the Parma resistor and the auxillary one. I actually did this mod ages ago, it does work, but your controller response is no longer linear. Enough to notice, but you may not mind it. think I only used a 5W resistor, it is only in use at part throttle anyway - full throttle bypasses all resistors. |

Excuse the 'dumb' question - but if it isn't linear, what is it??? Logarythmic? _________________ Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed Racer |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
back OT... Got some new plugs and sockets today ! After having my supplier give me another set of 10 of the locking sockets, I still wasnt happy with them.. So today I bought some new ones These are made of nylon, by Cliff electronics in QLD, I've used these sockets a lot in the past and had no problems, so it was time to return they are also only $1 each ! Also got some more good quality plugs, but these are a little more affordable, at $2ea, than the mega ones I still have! Made by Amphenol, doesnt have the same cable retension that the mega ones or the XLR's have, and if you want an Amphenol 1/4 plug with it you can get them ! but at $6 do you want to ? So, enough talk, photos ! btw, take note of the generous solder tabs on both the plugs and sockets ! |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
I got adapter plates for these sockets so they can mount in my panels ! |

H/M were the adaptors? |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
the adaptors were about 70c or something ? I assume you mean the plastic ones to mount the sockets into my panel ?? |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
Richard, something near hyperbolic..... Do a graph of Y = (R * X)/(R + X) R is the fixed value of your additional resistor (eg 50 Ohm), X is your controller resistor as it moves from maximum (eg 45 Ohm) to 0 Ohms (full throttle). Y is the total resistance. The curve will be backwards ie full throttle to no throttle, but it gives you the curve. If you want the actual curve, substitute (45 - X) where ever you see an X in the above eqn. Or change the 45 to whatever your controller is.. |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
Hmmm, yep, I see the logic in that .... so what I really need is a 120 ohm handcontroller with resistors in series, rather than parrallel ... _________________ |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
If you put a resistor in series you'll suffer ! As that resistance will never be swtiched out ! |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
Extra resistor before an SPDT switch where one connection leads to the 120 ohm and the other connection leads to the 45 ohm then the wiper ... although my numbers are probably wrong _________________ Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed Racer |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
yeah but at full throttle you'd still have 45 Ohms or I just misinterpreted your post... |

Re: Controller Plugs + Sockets
maybe I should just leave my controller alone ... _________________ |

If anyone is interested in seeing my controller panels have a look under the thread for my track ! |
