Re: WA Routed - Marathon Raceway
First draft of the controller box wiring, might redraw it a bit neater, with better descriptions of connectors, but it's more for the visual thing at the moment.

Me thinks that you have the direction arrow the wrong way around. I am just re wiring my track and I have the +ve on the left hand rail. I better get my track running and check that the cars go in the right direction.

Everything else looks good.

Yer, I realized after drawing it that with a switch in, they will run both directions

Cheers, I'm just about ready to borrow the crimper tool from you - also would you have a spare banana plug pair? I've got a set, but they are the solder type and I'd rather have the screw in type as I've used before .. I've been snooping around DSE, but they seem to be selling less and less electronics these days

Couldn't even find a reed switch

The track is looking great. I look forward to racing with that squeeze corner.

As for DSE it does depend on the store. I know Balcatta still carries a good range where Whitfords and Warwick stores have very little. Their web site does tell you what stores have the item in stock. http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/483c915f01c445d82740c0a87f9c06f7/Product/View/P7856

Or you can just go to a real electonic store like Altronics or Jaycar.

well done Richard!!

Squeeze lanes are a challenge I look forward to, your track will be very fast but require a little strategy as well

As for DSE, they are gradually getting out of selling electronics components altogether. Stores with low stocks send what's left to another store, down this way it's Freo that collects it all (open Sundays too btw).

Re: WA Routed - Marathon Raceway
yeah, i think i have a spare pair of banana plugs, and i even think they are the solderless type !

Personally i solder them any anyways

Love the Dinosaur

Doesnt supprise me much about DSE, they have been going down hill for years ! Components are still out there, but sometimes its browsing thru a catalouge rather than a store, as Jaycar and Altronics can be a bugger to get to.

Re: WA Routed - Marathon Raceway
First of the drivers stations - unfortunately the XLR sockets won't physically fit onto the plate, and bigger plates would mean taking out the cross beam to get a bigger hole in ...

Re: WA Routed - Marathon Raceway
Managed to wrestle the drivers stations into the wood:

Then added the power connection:

Got the first of the drivers stations in place:

And the second:

Started testing the track with those two lanes wired up, and there are some issues with the locking wire coming up, and also part of the board seems to have 'lifted' in the green lane between where the main route and the power rail route is, like a horizontal shear between the two. Ended up ripping up two of the wires and relaying them partially, which ran a bit better, but I'm still thinking about ripping up all the rails and re-routing them to add another 0.1mm or 0.2mm depth ... but anyway, apart from that, the switches go the wrong way, and I wired up the yellow drivers station in the green lane place, so a few things still to sort out.

Cheers

Richard

Re: WA Routed - Marathon Raceway
This weekend started to do some work on the timing section, the first pic is where the PC will plug into for the timing system:

Test fitting for where the laptop will sit:

Some touchups on the paint happened under the bridge (and a few other places):

Reed switches start going in:

Overview of the track:

Enjoy!

Re: WA Routed - Marathon Raceway
Got the timing bits and pieces finished this weekend, firstly a pic of where the reeds meet the cable, there is some double sided tape on the underside to help keep things in place, but now it's done, I'll put some black tape all over it to keep it in place, and prying fingers out :

Then re-wired a CAT5 cable to have a DB25 connection on the end of it:

We had some friends over that night, so the track had to be tested:

There was a glitch with one track, so Cam came over on Sunday and helped sort that issue out - turns out it was a problem connection with the flat wire not going into the RJ45 connector plate correctly - and after that we turned a few laps to try it out

Cheers

Richard
