Re: Monster Trucks
you mean something like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP_8Q7SEjUw

Simple conversion of a battery operated toy, added a drop arm with pickups.

Full 4WD system already in there, so nice n easy to do

Re: Monster Trucks
Cool Dave, whats the budget for this conversion?

Toy under $20, and drop arm made out of misc materials, must be less than a turbo car. Works well, do you have to drop the voltage down to 6V to avoid burning out the motor?

Re: Monster Trucks
toy $7-10 (were on counter at Stanbridges)

runs fine at 12V, motor doesn't burn out but has fragile finger type brushes, very easy to replace brushes and/or motor (130 size)

Drop arm hung from rear axle, has brass pickups and pin made from thumbtack haha

MaxTrak would be fun to run these on

Re: Monster Trucks
I seem to remember there is a tutorial for making these somewhere .... maybe the HOMTPA site?

Cheers

Re: Monster Trucks
yep HOMPTA site shows how to scratch build one, but needs a few brass tjet gears n stuff, as well as centre drilling bolts to use as worm gears.

I built a MT from brass rod ages ago, my soldering skills suck.
It worked at least, used a double output train motor.

Re: Monster Trucks
modified the truck slightly, gave the front axle some articulation.

Made a couple more "obstacles" to climb over too.

Re: Monster Trucks

not a huge amount of articulation, but enough
