afx,motor sport.a short story...BORRRING
1973 Melbourne, school holidays, heads out to Myer toy dept for afx slot car promotion.First in the queue 9am,monday, huge track, day 1 eleminations.3rd attempt to get poll postion, wins on the day, back on friday for final for the chance to win prize, THEN HAVE TO WIN AGAIN TO WIN THE GOAL>>>SUPER AFX TRACK PACK. Friday back in the queue, YES winner, prize presentation, ALLAN MOFFAT appears..presents U FLYIT...land the cessna simulator,,,race allan in few laps he wins. Back next week,Race starts,,bannng off in the first corner, marshalls cant find car..came last...... 2001 melb, some one gives me complemetary tickets to grand prix<<would never consider going otherwise>came a cross a marque Gentleman LARRY PERKINS is buckling some blond sheila into car..yobbo calls out "hey larry dont worry about that turn around for a photo" he does.. off to cause more havoc.Same marque yobbo spots Allan Moffat sittin in a corner,yobbo calls out "hey allan come and say hello to an old ford fan" Allan looks for escape route, but is hindered by papparazzi and reluctently comes over.After a brief intoduction and small chat, enjoys company of<yobbo> and autographs poster and shakes hands good by.In parting yobbo says" HAVEN"T SEEN YOU SINCE THE AFX CHAMPIONSHIPS at MYER". Allan is tacken aback and seems humbled> dont know whos more in ore? Moving on thru grand prix circus, some guys says "giday" and invites yobbo and now some what embarresed wife, into Ford marque>>>NOW IN THE PRESENCE of new generation of legend. CRAIG LOWDNES< is this right>? in the first year of transit form holden. We shake hands and i welcome him to FORD...SMILES for pic...and thats the day...were out there..we pause for moment to see formula ones wizz past near over pass and decend to barriers to the exits...we head home..Nightly news.........MARSHALL KILLED AS TYRE FLYS THUR BARRIER OPENING...didnt like standing near that over pass i didnt...ohhhh brotherrrrr....humble beginnings..bought my first tyco track in 2002...   Had thoughts about contacting afx aust. and try organise store promotions, but lo and be hold they had done it...read fine print..OPEN TO UNDER 16 ONLY.........batmannn//owell we grow up quik..by zol |

dont know who those girls with larry are dave. groupies perhaps,maybe pr, maybe some chicks he just met , i realy dont know, you know what rock stars an sporting people are like...And we wont talk about chevys. ive seen the ferrari in your drive way dave. OH CRAIGS THE HANDSOME 1..im the senoir company exexutive who cant aford a new pair of pants.  |

Mate, I'm a NISSAN fan, they banned those cars cos they were too good for Ford/Holden etc hehe. I really miss the old Group A, we had Ford/Holden, Nissan, BMW, Volvo, Jag, Toyota, Mitsy, Mazda and who knows what else! I can't afford a new pair of pants either haha |

hmm nissan .....was that the year it rained at bathurst, and skiafe and richo won by default cause of the rain..an RICHO made his classic SPEECH..LEGNED |

yeah think it was '92 ? it's on Youtube 
The Skylines had won Bathurst the year before too I think - instead of the Cosworth Sierras. |

Guys, reminds me of my 1st real slotcars those miserable scaleletrix things, had the George Fury Nissan on the box, and Gricey Chikadee too. Too bad it come with Escorts pretending to be Group A. At least I flogged them and eventually discovered HO. After 1/24 thats another story. I got those DVD's of Skylines at Wanneroo in 1984, back when we had more than V8 thunder. |

wouldnt mind an escort or capri ho slot car, maybe with rally pack finish..nice..rare to.1/24 scale is melbournes claim to fame, theres 2 commercial tracks here, 1 in dandenong an the others in williamstown as far as i know..ho you go into kmart or big w and they still turbo cars from 2001..hobbie shops dont have none ..AMAZING  |

The rally Eskys aren't that rare, even I've got one
The Capris are good too, aint got me one of those. Shawn, will have to check out your old DVD's some time, think the Fury Nissan was a DR30? I've got an article in Zoom magazine featuring a turboed Bluebird, they ran over 40psi boost for qualifying

well be on th look out for em in the near futre, maybe even an old porche929 afx..i think thank goodness auto world did a rerun of the nostalgic cars..other wise weed be priced out of the sport/collection, but im still waiting for them to release the 1966 batmobile from thier 2010 cat.. from 6 months ago>>HAVE THEY GONE OUT OF BUISNESS  |
