Re: New controller
it get's warmed up by our hands around it.. ie not very!

they're rated at 30A, so we're not even close to it's max power rating

Re: New controller
So no thermal paste and heatsink is really required??

Ahh, was just confused by Geoff's instructions ...
Instructions: Step 1 Turn Knob, Step 2 flick switch. Turn knob then flick switch, Turn knob, flick switch. Turn, flick. Turn flick.

That's my instructions for you as clear as mud. No wonder I get them confused. I think I was thinking about turning brakes off and coast on, or was that the VCR...

Richard,

Great stuff here.

Shawnster, check it out!

They even have an Electronic Thumb Controller for you so you wont have to worry about playing with your Cox.

Re: New controller
Ok, got my vero-board, PCB type connectors, 100 1/4 watt resistors and 50 1/2 watt resistors, the only bits I'm missing are the values for the potentiometers ... ?

Re: New controller
I am using 1K Log pots with a resistor across them. It does depend on the value and number of the other resistors you are using as it is all about balance.

I have 9 resistors in my wiper each 33 ohm as is the R1 and R3. I do not have an R2 but this is where I put the choke if I have one.

Across the sensitivity pot is 100 ohm resistor.

Across the choke I am using a 330 ohm resistor.

I am loosing interest in having a powered coast/brake controller as I just haven't found a car that needs it. So instead of attacking a pot I am using just a 1K log pot. It seems to give me good control of the brakes but more testing is needed. I have also been looking at using diodes for a brake controller. I like the theory so I will probably build one and test it out.

Anyone know a free easy to use software for drawing circuits and I will lay out what I am doing.

Re: New controller
Dia will do the trick:

http://dia-installer.de/index_en.html

There is a standard "circuit" installed, but there are extended sets here:

http://dia-installer.de/shapes.html

It also does flow charts, logic circuits, etc

Can output in PNG or JPG format

Re: New controller
Hello
Found this topic via Richard's post on auslot.

I have 2 Parma controllers that the resistors have died in and this looks like a really good option for making new controllers - are there any of the transistors still available?

I would appreciate another diagram - I am electronically challenged but willing to have a go

I would appreciate any assistance that is available - diagrams, parts lists, etc

thanks
David

David

I should be able to help you out with all three requests. I will pm you (in the next few days) re a couple of transistors. I am working on a diagram, parts list and some instructions which should sort out the build issues for you.

Re: New controller
This is another controller mod - converting an AFX type to a 100 Ohm resistor ...

Enjoy!
