Re: March - Championship Racing at Kev's
Meet Report

The second race of 2008 for the Perth HO racing group was held at “locoman” Kev’s place down in Armadale.
Kev worked hard on getting the table (4 clip together platforms) and base (extended trailer) made especially for the day and used his and sons Chris’ track pieces together to make an extremely fast track.
On the day an overwhelming turnout ensured good’n’hot racing……along with a late finish.

Geoffs computer program was only meant to handle up to 20 racers, so at some stage it was going to be over subscribed………just never thought it was to happen so soon into the year.
There were 22 racers put their hand up for the Classic T-Jet racing, so far an entry number record for this group. The junior racers accounted for the high number, sparking talk of a special race just for them at future race meets……maybe.
6 for the Sliders division was great to see. Drew and Dave G celebrated a return to the racing with a second and third respectively, but no one was going to catch Karl who finished on 97 laps.
In the crashers it was Garth who took line honors by a whole 3 laps where fellow 1/24th scale racers Dave H and Chad were equal second. Kev and Chris took advantage of “home territory” to claim equal forth along with Richard. Seventh belonged to Barry followed by Hayley, Ben, Luke, Kate, Em, Sarah, Tyler, Matelen and newcomer Jayden.

The second time out for the Handicapped turbo event saw 17 racers entered and again some interesting results ensued. Winner for the day was young Luke but he has a massive 8 seconds per minute added onto his handicap for the next event. DaveG popped into second, adding 4 seconds per minute on himself. Chad and Drew tied for third adding 1 second per minute on themselves. Surprise package was Em who tied for fifth with Karl and Geoff. Chris come in eighth, pipping Kev by one lap. Richard and Tracey shared tenth, dropping both their handicapps by 1 second per minute. Cam came twelfth, 4 laps behind Em, dropping his handicap by 1 second per minute. New face Bill shared twelfth but didn’t change his handicap since he was on 0 to start. Second place from the first event was Garth who suffered from his increased handicap and only ran 14th this time, dropping 1 second per minute. Barry was also 14th followed by Jayden and Matelen.

There was also 17 entries for the Super G’s. After the 5 heats, there were only 8 racers left for two finals.
In the consistency final Garth stormed home to take a 10 lap victory over Cam 2nd, Tyler 3rd and Luke 4th.
In the speed final Karl took a comfortable 6 lap win over DaveG 2nd, Drew 3rd and Tracey 4th.

In a month we head up to Cam and Ems track at Merriwa, so pen in the 5th of April. Improvments to the track are being made including new clear side barriers and caged areas (around the banks….like in NASCAR).
Hope to see you all there.

Re: March - Championship Racing at Kev's
After pizza it was time for the Restricted Open cars to come out and play. There was no real concern for overheating as this was a very open and fast track. DaveG showed where the speed was at, while Geoff showed that handling has a lot of play too.
Kev came and raced with us too, borrowing Geoffs P35. Hopefully we can slightly increase the interest and numbers in this class in the future.
Big time upset for Karl, chewing out a gear in an accident in the last bracket on white. That little incident handed him 6th. Garth stayed in the action for a solid 5th, just ahead of Chad in 4th who had the car but not the driving. Tracey had a great run, except for loosing a gear at the end of the 3rd last bracket. Dave, who started everything off well with a HUGE 27 laps in the first bracket, lost a gear in the same incident with Tracey and struggled home to 2nd , only 1 lap behind 1st. Geoff had a great run for the second race meeting in a row and showed massive amounts of consistency and speed, which combined together gave him the victory.
