Waking up with both of us having a bit of a hangover, we went to the breakfast and ate a bit, then walked around the hotal and took some pictures of the area around as we waited for our first tour, which starts at 10am.
We started our "City and Heratige" tour with our guide, Mr. Tan, who said that as we were the only people on the tour, we could customize the tour a bit to see some of the attractions we wanted to see, rather than sticking specifically with the tour agenda. So we first stopped at the "Floating Mosque".
We then went to the Reclining Buddha (Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram), which I had visited on my first trip to Penang (about 30 years ago!!). Eunice and I lit some candles and had a prayer in this temple, and then burned some incense in the minor temples on the outside, before we headed to the Burmese Temple over the road on Larong Burma.
From there we took a drive down Gerney drive, bur being early in the day, not a lot was happening there, which took us then to the State museum.
Fort Cornwallis was next on the list, so we spent some time there looking around, including looking inside the smaller displays which were in the old cells. It was damn hot in those rooms, and although some had air conditioning installed, it gave us an insight into what prisoners would have gone through (although from what I can gather, they were never in use as the fort was more of an administrative center, rather than a functioning fort).
Another attraction we wanted to see, but wasn't on the agenda was the town clock, so we stopped to take a couple of photos of this.
We next went to the "Kong Kongsi" clan house, then a drive through Chinatown and Little India.
We skipped the The Royal Selangor Pewter showroom, and went for lunch in a small eatery (Kopi Tiam) called Taman Emas, as Mr. Tan had recommended in the town centre, and we bought him some lunch.
Upon arriving back at the hotel we took some time to wander around and look at some of the tropical plants and flowers before Eunice discovered there was a Chinese Palmist available for reading, Mr Yeoh, who is apparently quite well known. We went back to the room to get changed as we were anticipating going for a swim after that.
The Palm reading lasted around an hour, as he read both Eunice and mine faces, palms and went through our Chinese astrology. He didn't allow us to record the meeting, so the reading has been commited to memory.
We headed back to the tailor to do a test suit fitting, with the lady there fussing over me again and making sure everything was correct, and us giving a few extra requirements which they were happy to comply with.
The next tour we arranged was called "Georgetown by night", and we set off at around 6.30pm. The driver took us again through Gerney Drive, which was a bit more active than this morn ing, although still not at it's peak. We went to the revolving resturant above the Citybayview Hotel. The food was ok, but the view was much better.
After that we went to have a ride through Penang Street on a Trishaw, the rider was old, but good at telling us the facts about the stret adn town and was one of the best guides we have had on the trip. Unfortunately the ride lasted only about 15 minutes, but we stopped for photos at the end.
Our driver took us back to the hotel, although he gave us a bit of a scare when he stopped at a pharmacy for medicine for his son, when he left the vehicle, with the motor running and went inside. We were a bit fearful of a potential kidnap situation, although nothing eventuated and we returned safely to the hotel.
With tomorrow being our last day in Penang, we've arranged a later check out and will probably hang around the Batu Ferrengi area to pick up suits and organize luggage before jetting off to Bangkok.
