We headed down for our buffet breakfast, but by the time we had finished, it was still too early for the tour we had booked, so had an hour to kill which we did wandering around the Chidlom area. We found ourselves at Watsons and picked up some toiletries and to cool off in the air conditioning, as it was hot and humid.
Our tour to Kanchanaburi. left around 10AM. Our tour guide, Mi, was already at our lobby. He was a very friendly, professional guide, and accomodated with some changes to our tour as it was a private tour.
The first destination was the "death railway", so called as the Japanese had made POW's work on the railway which joined Thailand and Burma, and many of these died during the construction, due to overwork, malnurishment and diasease. We went to restaurant by the river Kwai for lunch but was closed by the time we arrived (normally these tours start around 7AM), most tourist buses would stop there for an earlier meal, so the guide sorted out another resturant with a view over the river.
We then went for an Elephant ride through the jungle. The Elephant was smelly, and it was a scary experience!! The tickets were 1200 baht, which was expensive even by foreign standards.
The Elephant 'driver' stopped during the ride and took some photos of us. The local guy driving was very funny and jolly. Kept making us laugh by singing and joking, motor bike (referring to the Elephant), and see you tomorrow (trying to get us to wave).
Then we proceeded to the Tiger Temple, which also had other animals in the sanctuary, we had our photos taken with the Tigers and took some shots around the rest o the enclosure
We headed back to the other side of the River Kwai, where we saw the bridge that the POW's had built, before heading to the Jeath Museum, a tribute to the lives and deaths of the POW's.
As we headed back to Bangkok on another 3 hour journey (these attractions were a fair way from the City centre), we got back around 7ish. After cleaning up, we met up with Ally and Alice for dinner at Silom area. We then went to the Skybar for a drink. The Skybar is a small platform out from a building on the 64th floor, and we stayed there until after 1am.
Ally invited us back to her apartment to check out her place and she asked us to bring some stuff back to Perth. We walked back from there to the hotel, in what was another late night.
